6 Do’s and Don’t’s to Make a Great First Impression
July 9, 2019
Will Rogers stated, “You never get a second chance to make a great first impression.” First impressions are extremely important, especially when it comes to the hiring process. Meeting with a Tews recruiter is the first step to have your resume in consideration for many of our positions. As a receptionist, I am typically the first point of contact that candidates have with our office. I take calls and answer emails to direct everyone where they need to go. I have seen the good and the bad when it comes to first meetings. In an effort to help you put your best foot forward, here are six Do’s and Don’t’s to make a GREAT first impression.
Do look sharp. It can take as little as 7 seconds to make a first impression, and dressing the part is a big piece. Look professional and polished, and leave the tennis shoes at home.
Don’t be late. Punctuality can be a deal breaker. If you come in 15 minutes late, that is less time a recruiter can spend with you. We understand that life happens, but call to let us know if you are going to be late. It may be best to reschedule.
Do your research. Tews specializes in Administrative, Accounting/Finance, and IT positions. Doing a little research can help you decide if we, or any company you are prospecting, would be a good fit.
Don’t forget your resume! Bring two or more copies, especially if you are interviewing with one of our clients. Decision makers may join an interview last-minute, and extra copies will show your preparation.
Do call to follow up. We ask that you create a candidate profile and submit applications on our website. Recruiters view submitted resumes, but following up on your resume can make you look interested and invested in finding a position.
Don’t be nervous! We want to help and see you to do well!
Tews Company is committed to helping candidates and clients find the best fit for Administrative, Accounting/Finance, or IT positions.
